Van Straten Bakery Shortbread 525g

Boterkoek is the taste of a Dutch grandmother’s kitchen. It is wonderfully simple and completely unapologetic about its main ingredient: butter.

This is denser than an English sponge cake but softer than a Scottish shortbread biscuit. It is a rich, heavy, sweet cake with a chewy edge and a slightly gooey center.

Because it is so rich, boterkoek is traditionally cut into small, thin slices or little squares. Serve it on a small plate alongside your afternoon tea.
